Extracting DNA

I know my life has gone back to it's boring ol' routine since I got back to Provo, but the one thing I got to hold on to is my crabs. As you probably have read previously I did successful sneak my crabs past three different countries custom agents.
Now that I have my crabs here I now have the joy of doing DNA work on them. THE PLAN is to get the DNA work and the geometric morphometric work done this summer so I can write a paper with the results this fall.
To map the DNA from the crabs I am extracting DNA from their gills. This actually took way longer than I thought. First you need to break open the carpace and then take the gills out and put them in ethanol, and then package them. Sounds easy enough right? Well try doing that for 80 crabs. ... yeah, I was a little bored... SO HERE ARE PICTURES!
